BAN MONG TRIBE

The Mong or Hmong tribe in Thailand were originally from Laos and Vietnam. They seek refuge and finally settled in Thailand.

 

Clan membership is inherited upon birth or through adoption. All children are members of the father's clan. Women become members of their husband's family upon marriage but will retain their clan name of their father.

The Mong Tribe we visited in Thailand on our way to Chang Rai is from the Ban clan.

 

 

 

 

 Female clan members make living by embroidery and designing textiles .

 

At the time of our visit, one house is full of tribesmen preparing for a feast. I forgot to asked our guide what is the feast for.

 

One thing I noticed about this tribe is they are already more "modernize" than the other tribes.They have the luxury of modern transportations and  television sets that other tribes don't enjoy. Plus they live just along the national highway.
